Desiring God's Will

"I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” - Psalm 40:8

Over the years I’ve asked this question a lot: what is God’s will for my life?  Should I stay at a particular job, should we buy a new house, should I go back to school, should I end this friendship or begin another one?  I would say that this has been a life-long question.  See - I do desire to do God’s will, but sometimes God’s will is hard to discern.  Sometimes it’s easy - forgive someone who need to be forgiven, don’t cheat on my taxes, love my neighbor as myself, etc; but sometimes it is hard.  I know that a lot of you feel the same way.  My conversation have been had in my office questioning what direction you should go and what God has for your future.  Many our you are searching out God’s will for your life.

Here is Psalm 40  David is unsure of God’s will for his life. Despite being unsure, He “desires” to do God’s will.  I believe that is really where it starts.  Even though we may not know God’s full will for our lives - we desire for it.  When we desire something we search for it; we seek to attain it.

Actually finding God’s will really is finding Jesus Christ.  Jeremiah 29:13 (a foreshadowing of the coming of Jesus) says " 13And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.”

So what do we need to do?  Search knowing we will find God’s will in Jesus Christ!
